Peninsula Town Center Grand Opening

So the big day for the Peninsula grand opening has came and passed. Was it worth all the hype? Is it all that they say it is? We want to hear from you. Also our company Thread Perfection will give another winner 1 white custom printed  t-shirt.(A $30 Value with your logo, photo, or just a funny saying.)  There were more than 50 tenants that opened shop. That’s not bad considering today economy. To view an up to date list of the tenants click this Peninsula Town Center Tenant List to view. The big names that are now open for business are New York & Co., H&M, Hollister, The Limited, & Chicos. A few of the restaurants, that I will definitely give a shot are Frank Beamers American Grill (I am a big VA Tech Fan.) I am sure this will be a big hit since Frank Beamer recruits this heavily. Other restaurants include, BDS Mongolian Grill ,Five Guys Burgers & Fries ,Q Barbecue, Chipotle & several more.

I went to the PTC a couple of days ago and it is definitely worth the hype. Not only do Hampton people get to enjoy the luxury of buying items that are five minutes rather than 15 minutes to Patrick Henry or 30 minutes-an hour to other malls, PTC also offers stores that are rising in popularity. I’m pretty sure that plenty of other stores will open in the future and this certainly is a great way to offer jobs as well as leisure for families around the area.

I live closer to Patrick Henry Mall but I really think if I’m going to do some shopping at the Peninsula Town Center. I will be thinking twice about driving 15 minutes longer to the Peninsula Town Center vs Patrick Henry Mall. Did you have a favorite store there? Did you try one of the restaurants out yet?

I have been to Chipotle but I want to try the Italian place and that new ice cream place. And yes, I like the store Hollister. I could only shop at the one closest to us which was located in Lynnhaven or at Tyson’s Corner in D.C. and Shortpump in Richmond. I’m really glad I don’t have to travel as far to go to that store anymore.

Glad people that don’t pay Hampton property tax enjoy it.

From what I read this is a TIF,
    http://www.hampton.gov/press_release/cda_details.html
Note that the Base year for calculating tax increment are usually set at a calendar year(s) when the district isn’t doing well.

“TIF is a tool to use future gains in taxes to finance current improvements (which theoretically will create the conditions for those future gains).”

Shop local own Hampton stores, 100% taxes going to general tax fund.

This is like building a home by tearing down a dilapidated house, then paying for it with future gains in taxes to pay for mortgage, with the tax base set at the dilapidated house value? Very fair to others with the same businesses, oops, make that houses in the same district.

Don’t you think this will stop other businesses from moving into other areas of Hampton selling like goods or services because they are not getting tax financial assistance paid by the very taxes that they are creating in their sector to create that great look?

Prices are kept down because of how the “improvements” have been made and that 0.5% shopping fee. Can you figure out what it is costing? I can’t. But from what I can tell, the bonds are for 90 million for next 30 years, with 65.5 of tax money generated by the PTC bypassing the Hampton general tax fund to pay off the bonds. The 0.5% shopping fee, from what I can tell, to pay off what the taxes don’t cover? What is that, 2.1 million per year of taxes for your enjoyment. Can you say upscale shopper freeloader? Why can all the businesses in Hampton enjoy this perk?

How about shopping Hampton stores, that are locally owned would be nice, and all their taxes go to the general fund where it can be used anywhere in Hampton?
